Medicine is the art and science of healing. It encompasses a range of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness.

Contemporary medicine applies health science, biomedical research, and medical technology to diagnose and treat injury and disease, typically through medication, surgery, or some other form of therapy. The word medicine is derived from the Latin ars medicina, meaning the art of healing.

Though medical technology and clinical expertise are pivotal to contemporary medicine, successful face-to-face relief of actual suffering continues to require the application of ordinary human feeling and compassion, known in English as bedside manner.

What is the objective of Medical billing and coding programs?
Q. I have seen many medical billing and coding programs in the Internet. What is the objective of these programs (what do they train?). Are there good opportunities for medical billing and coding specialists? What is the basic requirement to join a medical billing and coding program?

A. The main objective of medical billing and coding training is to prepare yourself for getting employment in healthcare and insurance facilities with an emphasis on insurance billing, coding, medical records, and administrative front office responsibilities. Usually students of these programs get trained in using Medisoft software, ICD-9 and CPT books, as well as the Microsoft Office Suite products. Regarding job opportunities there are quite enough opportunities out there. Most of the training firms like provide placement assistance too.

How Medical or Pharmacy schools look on those who transferred from 2 year college to University?
Q. My daughter is planning to transfer to UC from community college with biology major. She fulfilled her requirements in CC which means that when she later apply to Pharmacy or Medical school, they would notice that all their prerequisites have been taken in CC. Should she retake these classes in the University or not? (O-Chem, Biology, etc.). Will it be even possible?

A. It's not frowned upon in the least. In today's world their are many non-traditional students..some of us may need to work, therefore we spend time in a less expensive cc school. Or there are those that trashed early education and need to pull rank before getting into a university. What 's important is the progress made and the ability to keep it steady. They take note of this...If you think your doctor was an A student think again, chances are he spent time in a cc. or had freshman probation. I've made many mistakes...leading me to one of the top medical universities. They understand more then you know. Bottom line ...if she's smart, she'll make it...& should be proud of where she came from. What it comes down to is ability,… [cont.]
