Why does my insurance allow a non-board certified plain MD to practice psychiatry?
Q. Don't you have to be board certified in your specialization to practice it? And, in particular, psychiatry with all the dangerous psychotropic drugs out there you have to stay abreast of? I am fully aware that every MD that has not been convicted of serious malpractice or a crime is licensed, but shouldn't each MD stick to practicing in his or her specialization? Isn't it fraudulent to represent you're a psychiatrist when you have not done the years it takes to become one, and keep your certification active by continuing education?
